SciSports is a Dutch football analytics start-up that provides data-driven advice to professional football clubs. To this end, SciSports is concerned with the whole data science process, which includes collecting large amounts of football data, transforming the data into knowledge, and communicating the insights to the end users at the clubs. In this talk, I will present SciSports' flagship products Insight and BallJames. Insight is an online platform providing access to the SciSkill Index, which ranks over 200000 football players in terms of their current abilities, estimated potential abilities, and market values. BallJames is an innovative camera-based optical tracking system that registers the locations of the players and the ball at a high frequency. This talk will identify the inherent challenges and provide high-level insights in the machine learning approaches used to address these challenges. |
