ICL : Installation

Local Users

Users of the departement of Computer Science only have to change some of their startup files. First note that everything on ICL is located under the directory ~ml/icl (the ICL home directory).

• First you have to set the environment variable ICL_DIR to ~ml/icl
  • Csh users put in their ~/.login: setenv ICL_DIR /home/ml/icl
  • Sh/Bash/Ksh users put in their ~/.profile: ICL_DIR=/home/ml/icl ; export ICL_DIR
• Then you have to add /home/ml/bin/bin to your path
  • Csh users add in their ~/.options.csh: set cs_endpath=/home/ml/icl/bin/bin
  • Sh/Bash/Ksh users add in their ~/.options.sh: CS_ENDPATH=/home/ml/icl/bin/bin

  Remark: this also makes available several other systems installed in the ML directory!

• Finally, you have to set up your environment for using ProLog by BIM. This can be easily done by setting the corresponding flag to yes in your ~/.options.csh or ~/.options.sh file.

Now you should be able to startup ICL on our machines (on all Solaris 2.* machines and all Linux PC's).

Other Users

If you received a distributed version of ICL (i.e. a runtime for Solaris 2.*), you have to do the following:

• First you have to extract the files from the archive (probably a gzipped tar file) into a directory, which we will call the ICL home dir.
• Then you have to
  • set the environment variable ICL_DIR to the full pathname of the ICL home dir you have just created
  • add $ICL_DIR/bin/bin to your PATH variable
  The distribution contains two small scripts to do that: init.csh and init.sh (for csh resp. sh syntax). You can of course put these two commands in your startup files like ~/.cshrc.

Now you should be able to startup ICL.
