Glue-Nail System Release 2.0

Appeared in Volume 7/1, February 1994

The Glue-Nail deductive database system from Stanford University is now available. The source code is divided into two parts, the Glue-Nail compilers and the IGlue interpreter. Both are needed. The Glue and Nail compilers are available via anonymous FTP from:
ftp://ftp-cs.stanford.edu/cs/glue-release

The IGlue interpreter must be requested from Marcia Derr at AT&T Bell Laboratories (mad@research.att.com). A standard software license agreement is required for the IGlue interpreter.

The code is written in C, C++, and Prolog. It has run under Sicstus Prolog, Quintus Prolog, and C-Prolog. The compilers use yacc and flex. Flex is included in the release, but you will need your own Prolog. Flex is copyleft. Sicstus is recommended. It could be ported to other Prologs without too much work.

The system has run on Ultrix, SunOS4.1.x, and Solaris 2.2 (although there is a problem when we compile IGlue with the cfront-based C++ compiler on Solaris 2.2). We currently compile all of the system on SunOS 4.1.x, and run it on both SunOS and Solaris.

We encourage people to build applications on top of Glue-Nail. We are distributing all the source code, so we also encourage anyone interested in extending its functionality.

Installation problems, and Glue and Nail bugs should be reported to:
Geoffrey.Phipps@eng.sun.com

IGlue problems should be sent to:
