Appeared in Volume 9/2, May 1996
Applied Logic Systems, Inc. has released Version 2.0 of the ALS Prolog Compiler and Development Environment. This release includes new features, and supports a number of new platforms, including:
MS Windows (95, NT, and a DLL for 3.1); Macintosh (PowerMac and M680x0); Unix (Sun Solaris/SunOS, HP 9000/7xx, SGI Indy/Onyx; IBM PowerPC AIX, Linux[ELF], NextStation 3.3)
New features include Client/Server tools (including remote execution primitives) for distributed computing over both LANs and the internet; freeze and delay primitives; the ObjectPro object-oriented subsystem; and an extended stream-oriented I/O subsystem.
The client/server tools are based on TCP/IP sockets, integrated into the stream-oriented I/O package, and have been used to develop the Logical Web Server(tm), which allows ALS Prolog programs to perform as CGI servers without the overhead of starting a fresh Prolog image for each interaction.
Details, including on-line manuals, are available on the ALS web site http://www.als.com, where the on-line order system is managed by a Logical Web Server.
