Travel information

Leuven is a university town in Belgium, located in the heart of Europe. It is located about 20 kilometers east of Brussels, the capital of Belgium.

Brussels International Airport

Less than half an hour from Leuven, Brussels International Airport offers non-stop service to all major destinations. The official designation of the airport is BRU. There are several options for Public Transport.

Rail: Direct trains are available to Leuven from the lower level of the Arrivals hall (€ 5.35 one-way ticket). Further information is available from Belgian Railways.

Taxi: Metered taxis are available outside the Arrivals hall (tickets can be booked in advance at taxi2airport for 21-35 € one way, 41-75 € round trip).

Alternatively, the following Car Hire companies: Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National Car Rental and Sixt have desks in the Arrivals hall.

How to get to the summer school accommodation

Below is a detailed map with the location of the accommodation and bus stops.

Address:

The student accommodation is located in building 24 of student residence "Studentenwijk Arenberg", B-3001 Heverlee (Leuven). When you arrive on Sunday the 29th, you will receive your keys and welcome package there.

Please disregard any previous information on residence "Johannes XXIII", as the rooms have been moved to different (better) location.

Bus:

De Lijn buses serve routes throughout Flanders, including Leuven. The accommodation is really close to the campus where the summer school takes place. Fro Leuven Railway Station (or elsewhere in the city), take bus line number 2 in the direction of Heverlee (Campus), and get of at the final stop (‘Heverlee Campus’). On Sunday evenings line 586 (Studentenpendel) also takes you from the station to the Campus, and on Friday eventings from the Campus to the train station.

You can buy a ticket on the bus, or in the "De Lijn Winkel" near the bus stops at the station. If you are with a group, or plan to use the bus on a regular basis, it is cheaper to buy a "Lijnkaart" for e.g. 10 trips in the "De Lijn Winkel".

Walking:

Reachable by foot (a few 100 meters) from the student accommodation.

Bus:

Easiest it to take line # 2 Kessel-lo – Heverlee, and get off at the final stop ‘Heverlee Campus’. Alternatively, take line # 616 Leuven – Bertem – Moorsel – Zaventem and get off at stop ‘Celestijnenlaan’. On Sunday evenings line 586 (Studentenpendel) also takes you from the station to the Campus, and on Friday eventings from the Campus to the train station.
