Paris C. Kanellakis

Appeared in Volume 9/2, May 1996

As you must know by now, Paris C. Kanellakis, a professor of computer science at Brown University, was killed unexpectedly and tragically on December 20th, 1995, together with his wife and two children. En route to Cali, Colombia, their airplane veered off course and crashed into a mountain.

A sentiment that occurred to many of Paris' friends and colleagues is that we need to ensure that any work in progress by Paris' will be brought to completion, to the extent possible. We also need to ensure that his professional responsibilities are taken care of. Serge Abiteboul, Isabel Cruz, Gabi Kuper, Harry Mairson, Alex Shvartsman, Victor Vianu, and Moshe Vardi have volunteered to help Dina Goldin, Pascal Van Hentenryck, Peter Wegner, and Stan Zdonik at Brown with this task.

Our first and immediate goal is to identify all the loose ends that Paris' tragic death left behind. This note is a request that people who were involved with Paris in unfinished scientific or professional projects to inform us of these projects, by sending a note to vardi@cs.rice.edu
