The Three Short Planks Problem

1. There are three islands A, B, C. On each island is a man with a plank of wood not quite long enough to reach another island. How do they form a bridge across linking all three islands?

2. With the same three planks but with only two men on island A, who have the three planks in their possession, how does one man get to island B and one man to island C?
