Even though current antiretroviral combination therapy for HIV patients is highly active, residual virus replication can not be excluded, resulting in antiviral resistance. The most common tools to predict therapy failure are rule-based interpretation systems such as the Rega algorithm, which are based on scoring the presence of resistance mutations. In addition to resistance, many factors can be important, such as drug adherence, drug levels. We plan to extract such information from clinical databases, using data mining technology. This information can then be used to quantify the chances on therapy failure or response for any given patient, thereby providing information relevant for clinical decision making.
