Dear Logic Programmers,

Welcome to the December 2007 issue of the ALP Newsletter.

It has been a long time... I need to apologize for being forced to collapse issues 3-4 of the newsletter. An unfortunate sequence of deadlines, health problems, and other circumstances have delayed the publication. I am sure that the outstanding quality of the material included in this issue will greatly compensate for the long wait!

It was great to meet many of you in Porto for ICLP 2007. I found this ICLP to be one of the best in a long time. The audience was large and active, and the talks were really good. On top of that, Fernando and his team organized a fantastic event, with a perfect balance between technical content and social events. I am still savoring the taste of that great Porto wine served during the social dinner...

In the meantime, a number of new events are coming. You will be soon receiving news of a new election of members to the ALP executive committee. Three positions will be open and the nomination process is under way. If you are reading this newsletter, then you are likely to be an official member of the ALP, which qualifies you for voting in the election. I hope you will all help in this selection -- the role of the ALP EC is very important, in promoting the role of Logic Programming and enhancing its visibility and impact.

And ICLP 2008 is on its way... it is slated for the second week of December 2008 - a long way - and it will take place in Udine, Italy. This is an event that is particularly close to my heart - Udine is my hometown and it is a particular honor to have the flagship LP conference to take place there. I can guarantee that Udine will reserve a lot of surprises and great hospitality to all the ICLP participants. Please mark your calendars and be sure to visit this little jewel of history and traditions.

Last but not least... from the staff of the ALP Newsletter and from yours truly, Best Wishes of Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!

To bring this one to closure, I would like once again to welcome your comments/critics/suggestions/... on how you would like to see the ALP Newsletter evolve in the near and not-so-near future.
